Most organizations monitoring AI systems today are watching the same set of numbers: token usage, latency, error rates, and throughput. These metrics matter, and engineering teams genuinely need them. But they only tell part of the story.

Bring your data sources together. Useful observability at this level requires pulling from application logs, user analytics, and business performance systems. Keeping these separate limits what you can learn from any of them.
Monitor continuously, not periodically. AI systems change over time, whether through model updates, shifting user behaviour, or changes in how the system is being used. One-time audits will not catch the kinds of gradual drifts that tend to erode value quietly.
As AI becomes more deeply embedded in how organizations operate, the pressure to demonstrate tangible outcomes is only going to increase. Observability platforms are already moving toward unified views that span model performance, user behavior, and business impact in one place.
The organizations building this capability now are better positioned to move from running AI experiments to running accountable AI systems. That distinction matters a lot when it comes to continued investment and executive confidence.
Organizations that successfully link AI performance to business outcomes are significantly more likely to realize measurable returns on their AI investments compared to those that rely solely on technical metrics.
