Oriented Happy Businessman with Briefcase Knocking at Customer D

Searching for a job requires a lot of effort and can feel like a full-time job in itself. If you’re at the point where you would ask just about anyone to help you find a job, you should take a look at these four simple steps to help you find exactly what you’re looking for.

Search in Unexpected Places

Obviously, you will find some jobs on online job boards and in newspapers, but don’t limit yourself to these. Try using word of mouth or social media to find jobs as well. Speak to your friends and family to see if they know of any companies that are hiring or may be hiring soon. You could be surprised by what places you can find just by talking to someone you know. You can also search for companies that you are interested in through Facebook and LinkedIn. You might find postings here before they make it to a job board.

Revise Your Resume for Each Job

Many people create one catch-all resume that they believe will be applicable to every job that they apply to. You can get more interest from companies if you revise your resume for each specific job. You should change the wording to make it match what it says in the job description and include any special experience that will apply to that job. Then, make sure that your resume is organized so that your most applicable experience appears at the top.

Volunteer

While you are out of work, find a local organization to volunteer for. You can gain experience while you are out of work, and you will have something on your resume during the time when you were out of work. Volunteer experience demonstrates integrity and a hard-working nature. If you can volunteer within your industry, that’s even better

Tap into your recruiter network

Chances are, you’ve been contacted before by a recruiter. Reach out to a recruiter and follow up often to see if they have opportunities for you. A persistent candidate gets remembered. Also, contact us for career advice, resume review and opportunities.

Whether you have been out of work for a long time or just a week, it is important to follow these steps to help you find a great job. Even if you already have a job, you can use these steps to find the career that you’ve always dreamed of.
